Back Again for Another Round!!

School has started and I can hardly contain my excitement! Now that I have given the school rules, emergency drills and classroom procedures twelve times over, I am ready for some real learning to begin!!

It is quite amazing how much time all of that actually takes, when done thoroughly. I had hoped we could play a couple rounds of red light-green light in Spanish afterwards outside. As luck would have it there was no time left! Well, the semáforo is made and ready for possibly this coming week's lessons...

We'll have to see how far we get with the colors pre-test, introduction to Spanish phonetics and choosing of a Spanish classroom name. If not now, definitely later. I mean a game like that simply cannot be passed up!

Kids love it when the language is linked to an English activity they enjoy as well.
It is culturally relevant.
It is relevant to their American experience.

One thing I learned this Thursday....
Never allow kindergartners to guess the word for black in Spanish, especially when their assistant teacher is of African descent. Not my brightest moment. Not more than two seconds earlier did a child suggest ramarillo for rojo, right after we reviewed the color yellow. Now that was quite clever. They should swap her idea for anaranjado. No one remembers that one anyways.
